Shawn Denise Cunningham –
Define to Know is a very helpful resource for improving a student’s knowledge of vocabulary words.
Also, if you’re taking a student throught the Barton Reading and Spelling program, the words in Define to Know Set 1 are found in Level 3 of the Barton Reading and Spelling program. It’s a great tool for parents or tutors to use for the students that are getting bogged down during the reading of phrases, sentences, and stories (in the Barton program) due to not knowing the vocabulary words.
Not only are the cards are a great resource for increasing vocabulary understanding but they help with reading fluency as well.
I love that the cards are a larger size ( 4″ X 6″) and also that they are on a thicker card stock so they will last a long time. I also appreciate that each card comes with a simple, colorful, and fun image that helps anchors the definition into the student’s memory. This saved me a lot of time as I didn’t have to search for my own images to go along with the vocabulary words. My daughter learns the best when information can be hooked with an image so this has been super helpful.
Lastly, the instructions in the packet mentioned a game that you can play with your student which always makes learning a lot more fun.
I highly recommend the Define to Know flashcards.
